Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid, a Novel of NASA's Space Shuttle Era

Taylor Jenkins Reid takes readers into the early years of NASA's space shuttle programme. Joan Goodwin teaches physics and astronomy at Rice University, keeps mostly to herself and dotes on her young niece Frances. When NASA calls for its first women scientists, she applies, and in 1980 she is chosen to train at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Among her fellow candidates she finds friendship, rivalry and a love she never expected, until a shuttle mission in December 1984 changes everything. It suits readers of character-driven historical fiction and book clubs looking for an emotional, absorbing story.
