Women Resisting Sexual Violence and the Egyptian Revolution

Women Resisting Sexual Violence and the Egyptian Revolution: Arab Feminist Testimonies is a study by Manal Hamzeh of women's experiences during the 2011 uprising in Egypt. Women stood at the front of the protests, but activists faced a fierce backlash, including sexual violence and intimidation from the regime and even from fellow protesters.

The book is built around first-hand accounts from four women who played significant roles in the revolution, and the ways of resisting that they developed in response. Hamzeh examines how state violence and violence against women are connected, and contends that this resistance is transforming relations between women and men in Egypt and across the Arab world. It suits readers of feminist, Middle Eastern and political studies.
