The True History of Art by Sylvain Coissard, Illustrated by Alexis Lemoine (Hardback)

Sylvain Coissard and illustrator Alexis Lemoine take a playful swing at art history in this small, full-colour hardback. Rather than serious scholarship, they offer comic, invented explanations for what was really going on behind some of the world's most famous paintings. It is a fun gift for art lovers, students and anyone who likes their culture with a wink.

• Parodies works by Monet, Rembrandt and other great masters
• Offers a tongue-in-cheek answer to why the figure in Munch's painting screams
• Explains, in its own way, why Van Gogh's yellow bedroom looks so neat
• Also tackles Cézanne's bandage and what happened just before the Mona Lisa
• Short and highly visual, easy to enjoy in one sitting
