The lion, the witch and the wardrobe by C. S. Lewis

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is C.S. Lewis's classic fantasy novel and, in chronological reading order, the second book of The Chronicles of Narnia. Four siblings, Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter, are evacuated to a rambling country house, where Lucy steps through an old wardrobe into Narnia, a snowbound land of fauns, talking beasts and centaurs held under the spell of the White Witch.

With the great lion Aslan at its heart, the story weaves together courage, betrayal, forgiveness and sacrifice in a way that has enchanted generations of readers. It works beautifully as a family read-aloud and as an independent read for confident young readers, and it opens the door to the rest of the seven-book Narnia saga.
