Fawning by Ingrid Clayton (Paperback)

Fawning by Dr Ingrid Clayton, a clinical psychologist who specialises in complex trauma, puts a name to a response many people recognise but rarely talk about. Alongside fight, flight and freeze, fawning is the urge to appease, please and stay close to whatever is hurting us.

• Explains how fawning differs from codependency and ordinary people-pleasing
• Shows how it can keep us in harmful jobs, relationships and environments
• Describes why it starts as a way of staying safe and becomes a problem once it runs on autopilot
• Lists common signs, such as self-blame, avoiding conflict and caring for others at our own expense
• Draws on two decades of clinical practice and the author's own recovery

A compassionate, practical read for anyone working through trauma or trying to stop shrinking themselves to keep the peace.
