Exotic: A Fetish for the Foreign by Judy Sund (Phaidon Hardback)

Exotic: A Fetish for the Foreign is Judy Sund's illustrated study of the age-old pull of faraway places and the promise of the strange and marvellous, whether beautiful or grotesque. Published by Phaidon, it shows how the idea of the foreign has been absorbed again and again into Western culture.

• A wide range of images tracing how distant cultures were seen, imagined and borrowed
• Covers fine art, design, architecture and other areas of creative life
• Shows how this fascination enriched Western society while raising hard questions about representation
• Feels especially relevant now that contact with global cultures is easier, and more fraught, than ever

A handsome coffee-table book for readers of art history, designers and anyone curious about cross-cultural exchange.
