Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ by Daniel Goleman (Paperback)

Daniel Goleman's Emotional Intelligence challenges the idea that IQ decides how well our lives turn out. Drawing on brain and behavioural research, he argues that the way we understand and manage feelings, our own and other people's, plays a larger part in thinking, decisions and success than we tend to admit.

• Sets out the core skills of emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-control, motivation, empathy and handling relationships
• Explains why people with high IQs sometimes struggle while others with modest ones thrive
• Shows how these skills affect work, marriage, friendship and health
• Argues that emotional skills can be learned, and looks at what this means for parents and schools

The book that brought the term into everyday use, and still a key read for managers, teachers, parents and anyone interested in psychology.
