Don't Be Yourself: Why Authenticity Is Overrated (and What to Do Instead) by Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic (Hardcover)

Don't Be Yourself takes aim at one of the most repeated pieces of career advice. Psychologist Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, author of Why Do So Many Incompetent Men Become Leaders?, draws on research to argue that chasing a fixed true self can hold people back. It suits leaders, managers and ambitious professionals who want a sharper view of how success really works.

• The case against authenticity: why expressing your unfiltered self is not the winning strategy it seems.
• Read the room: successful people adapt their behaviour and pay close attention to how others see them.
• Culture critique: looks at authenticity in Silicon Valley and in diversity programmes.
• Practical playbook: concrete guidance on what to do instead.
