Awful Auntie by David Walliams, Illustrated by Tony Ross (Paperback)

Stella Saxby should inherit Saxby Hall, the grand family home, but her Aunt Alberta has other ideas and will stop at nothing to get her hands on it, helped by Wagner, her huge and frightening owl. Locked away and outwitted at every turn, Stella finds an unlikely ally in a ghostly boy named Soot.

David Walliams mixes slapstick, twists and warmth in a story that is as funny as it is spooky, with Tony Ross's drawings throughout. It suits young readers who enjoy comic adventures and makes a lively read-aloud for families.

• Comic villain: Aunt Alberta is one of Walliams' most outrageous baddies
• Spooky friend: a ghost helps Stella fight back
• Illustrated: artwork by Tony Ross
• Family reading: plenty of humour for sharing aloud
