Time of White Horses (Zaman al-Khuyul al-Bayda) by Ibrahim Nasrallah, Arabic Novel (Paperback)

Time of White Horses (Zaman al-Khuyul al-Bayda) is an epic novel in Arabic by Ibrahim Nasrallah and part of his Palestinian Comedy series. Following generations of a Palestinian village from the last decades of the nineteenth century to the Nakba of 1948, it rewards anyone drawn to historical fiction or to the story of Palestine told from the land up.

• Village families hold out against a long line of powers: local notables, Ottoman rule, the British Mandate, Zionist settlement and divided Arab leaderships
• Weaves together epic narrative, folk tales, oral testimony and songs
• Borrows techniques from cinema to move across time and characters
• Draws on the lore of horses to reveal the inner lives of its people
• Offers a Palestinian counter-narrative grounded in rural life
